Shed Attachment to Money

While praising St. Francis at a new shrine (here), Pope Francis urged people to shed their attachment to money and be more like Jesus - “we are all called to be poor.”

Pope Francis tries to be all things to all people. He preaches to the choir. He tells people at St. Francis’ shrine to be poor. While he previously denounced the gospel of prosperity, this did not prevent him from meeting with and praising leading preachers of the Gospel of Prosperity (here).

Similarly, while Pope Francis condemned businesses that don’t provide medical insurance, or that fire employees they no longer need, he has no compunctions about the Catholic Church declaring bankruptcy to evade its legal and moral responsibilities. No one says a word about papal duplicity. No one urges him to meet his moral responsibilities. They don’t even urge him to fix his child abuse problem.
