Franklin Graham Once Again Backs Trump

The headline of the evangelical Christian Post: “Franklin Graham Says Trump Should Not Release His Tax Returns: 'No Way'”. Graham maintains (here) that releasing his tax return would not only be of no use, it would be downright harmful: “It would just be another huge distraction, and a media frenzy, which is exactly what his enemies want.” Even if Trump released it, people are too dumb to understand it: “Even if these were published, the average American — or the average politician, including Senator Chuck Schumer [D-N.Y.], for that matter — wouldn't be able to understand them. President Trump is a billionaire with multiple businesses in multiple states.” Just don’t worry your pretty little head about it!

Mr. Graham doesn’t want to trouble Joe Sixpack, and apparently can’t conceive that people who could understand the returns, like journalists or forensic accountants, might find something of value in them. Franklin Graham knows that Mr. Trump would not have conflicts of interest, much less violate the Constitution’s emoluments clause. It runs in the family. Billy Graham, who had a long and close relationship with Richard Nixon, kept assuring the American public that Nixon was a righteous man who would never do anything immoral, much less illegal.

Furthermore, it is just a coincidence that Franklin Graham recently changed the tax structure of the Graham charities so that he no longer had to provide the public with confusing facts about their revenue, who provided it, and how it got spent. Mr. Trump’s non-charitable organizations shouldn’t be penalized in this manner either.

The Christian Post noted that other conservative Republicans were far less protective of Mr. Trump. Some said it was a “no-brainer,” and that President Trump should release it just like every other president. Others pointed out that candidate Trump promised to release his old tax returns if he got elected, and that he should keep his promise. Nobody but Franklin Graham went on record to say President Trump should withhold this information – for the good of the American people.

Princelings stick together. I warned that Franklin might follow in his father’s footsteps by backing immorality (here). I just didn’t think it would happen so soon. Franklin’s even dumber than I thought.

Jesus warned of false prophets preaching in his name, calling them wolves in sheep’s clothing, and minions of mammon. You don’t hear many Christians preaching this.
