New Child Abuse Scandal in Germany

Hundreds of children in a Catholic boys choir were abused “between 1945 and the early 1990s” (here). The man in charge of the choir during most of this period was Georg Ratzinger, brother of Cardinal Ratzinger, who became Pope Benedict.

Georg Ratzinger admits to knowing as well as participating in the physical abuse. He claims he was unaware of the sexual abuse. Pope John Paul gave Cardinal Ratzinger responsibility for managing the Church’s response to the sex abuse crisis in the 1980's. John Paul and Ratzinger managed to suppress evidence of clerical child abuse for many years. But more and more evidence keeps getting released.

There is a new effort underway to tout the Church’s progress in dealing with child abuse. More on this later.
