Catholic Poll Finds Pope is Popular

CRUX touts a recent Catholic survey (here) that shows Pope Francis has almost 88% approval among American Catholics, while 68% of all Americans approve of his performance. The survey also asked about his performance on: Advancing the cause of the poor; Human rights; Environmental issues; Migration/immigration; Handling cases of sexual abuse involving Catholic clergy; and Marriage and family issues. Less than half of all Americans approve his handling of clerical sex abuse. On the other hand, 63% of Catholics approve his handling of clerical sex abuse.

Neither CRUX nor the survey organization published data on Francis' ratings on other attributes - a surprising failure. Attitudes on his handling of clerical sex abuse are remarkably low for this kind of study. Even Catholics downgrade his performance by over 25 points.
