Millennials Ditching Religion for Astrology?
CBS Marketwatch reports, “Why millennials are ditching religion for witchcraft and astrology.” Citing a Pew survey, they say “the percentage of people between the ages of 18 and 29 who ‘never doubt existence of God’ fell from 81% in 2007 to 67% in 2012.” That is a huge drop in belief in a very short period of time. You might think that millennials are more rational.
But the articles also reports, “ more than half of young adults in the U.S. believe astrology is a science, compared to less than 8% of the Chinese public.” Obviously they are far from rational.
It is one thing to believe in astrology, like some believe that wafers become the physical body of Jesus. It is quite another thing to believe astrology is science. This shows an appalling lack of understanding of what science is and how it works. The Chinese seem to have a far better grasp of things. The article goes on to show that millennials are willing to put a lot of money on related unscientific gimmicks - even though most of them earn relatively little. Still, these expenditures probably fall well short of tithing.
