Porn Becoming Morally Acceptable

CRUX reports on a new Gallup study showing that nearly half of Americans now view pornography as morally acceptable (here). A large majority of the young accept it, especially young men. A similarly large majority of those who say religion is not important to them say porn is morally acceptable. So do Democrats.

CRUX did not include a link to the Gallup findings, which are here (detailed results not available). While Christianity has always been prudish, it was primarily concerned with behavior, not pictures. In Jesus’ day, pornography was widespread, and socially acceptable among Greco-Romans. While Jesus condemned looking with lust, that teaching was generally downplayed or ignored.

This kind of thing used to really arouse evangelicals. They were the ‘moral majority’ who focused on ‘family values’ and defeated the Equal Rights Amendment on the grounds that it would lead to unisex bathrooms and drafting women into the armed forces. Today, evangelicals are in bed with Donald Trump, who bedded porn stars, peeked at naked beauty contestants, and boasted about grabbing pussies. It will be interesting to see how outraged they are about Americans’ tolerance of pornography.
