New International Group on Church Abuse Victims

Suddenly there are potentially important actions on several fronts in the war against the Church’s sexual abuse of children. For example, several countries have recently decided to prosecute bishops and cardinals for their involvement in these crimes (World Governments Play Catch-up). Church officials had previously been given special dispensation, but as the scope of these crimes is documented in country after country, governments seem less fearful of reprisals and more intent on dealing with this crime.

Now a new international group, Ending Clergy Abuse, has formed to address this problem. Each of its members is part of a national victims’ organization. This multinational approach should help draw attention to the broad institutional character of these crimes and their cover-up.
