Canadians Trash Religion

Most Canadians - 51% - now believe that religion does more harm than good, according to a new survey. Quebec, formerly that most Catholic of provinces, is now in the forefront of those rejecting religion, with 62%. (Canada suffered greatly from clerical child abuse, though this was rarely covered in the US.) Only 24% of Canadians think religion makes someone a better citizen. These attitudes are radically different from those of their southern neighbors. Only 34% of Canadians believe religion should play a role in politics, while much of America’s Republican Party is based on this premise – as well as much of the evangelical movement.
