Digby on Recent Trump Poll

Pew conducted a recent poll on American’s beliefs about Trump, broken down by party affiliation. Digby summarized it here.

One striking thing is that core support for Trump is about 30% of the population – slightly larger than the population of evangelicals. After all, there are right-wing Catholics, and even a relative handful of left-wing evangelicals – though I’m not sure if the latter group identifies itself as evangelical in these contexts. Pew did not break out results by religious affiliation. The key point is that core Trumpers – and to a surprisingly large extent Republicans of all stripes – basically think that Trump can do no wrong. Theirs is a world of faith, relatively impermeable to facts.
