More Lofty Morality from the Shining City - and Updates
Archbishop Robert Carlson of St. Louis disbanded the Catholic Committee on Girl Scouts, declaring that the organization conflicts with Roman Catholic morality and values: "Girl Scouts is exhibiting a troubling pattern of behavior and it is clear to me that as they move in the ways of the world it is becoming increasingly incompatible with our Catholic values" (NCR story).
In the past, Archbishop Carlson showed far less concern with clerical child abuse. Under deposition he said, “I’m not sure whether I knew it was a crime or not.” He had 193 lapses of memory on the subject. But he admits that he never reported any cases of child abuse to the authorities.
I think it's a safe bet that intellectual integrity and honesty are not among his highest priorities.
